Bluesville is excited to announce two groundbreaking new reissues from a pair of blues heavyweights: Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall and Skip James’ Devil Got My Woman.
Arriving August 21, both titles are available for pre-order/pre-save today. The LP formats are remastered from the original tapes (AAA), pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP in partnership with Acoustic Sounds, and housed in tip-on jackets. Both albums also appear newly remastered in crystal-clear hi-res and standard digital audio. Stream advance singles “Bright Lights Big City“ and “Devil Got My Woman” now.
Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall, though not a live recording, recreates Reed’s set at the iconic New York City venue. The 1961 album features lasting crossover hits such as “Bright Lights Big City” which laid the foundations of rock and roll, and was named as one of the 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Reed’s laid-back, hypnotic Chicago blues groove shines through with his neck-rack harmonica and relaxed vocals. This release presents teh first LP of his classic 1961 double album.
Skip James leaned into an intimate and austere sound with what would be the final album released in his lifetime, 1968’s Devil Got My Woman. A solo album, it showcases James’ haunting vocals and expert accompaniment on guitar and piano. The title track has remained James’ signature track posthumously, having been included in the soundtrack of the ACADEMY AWARD®-nominated film Ghost World and inducted into the GRAMMY® Hall of Fame.
