We are proud to be shining a spotlight on two electric blues standouts, arriving June 12: Albert King’s I’ll Play the Blues For You and Eddie Kirkland’s It’s The Blues Man!

Originally released on Stax Records in 1972, King leans into a smoother, modern soul-blues sound on I’ll Play the Blues For You. His aching vocals and fluid guitar lines are anchored by a tight, groove-heavy rhythm sections. The dynamic rhythm on this album is rounded out by The Bar-Kays, The Movement, and the Memphis Horns. This album shows why Albert King is one of the “Kings of the Blues” his sound is vibrant, funky, and modern.

Kirkland’s 1962 debut album was originally released on Prestige Records. Accompanied by the King Curtis Band, the album delivers a raw set of blues and R&B originals, with gritty vocals and deeply locked electric grooves. Kirkland’s open-chord style and thumb-picking helped transform the Delta Blues into the electric age. Across his career, Kirkland became known for performing with John Lee Hooker and Otis Redding, but now you can hear his blues prowess front and center.

Both albums have been (AAA) remastered from the original tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP in partnership with Acoustic Sounds.
